Visual Mobiles: Munari & Octahedron

Age Group: 0–3 Months

📸 Visuals

(Insert flipbook gallery or short reel showing each mobile gently swaying above a baby lying on a play mat. Include close-ups of the shapes and how they move.)

🎯 Objectives

  • Strengthen visual focus and tracking
  • Support early color perception
  • Encourage concentration and independent observation
  • Introduce visual contrast and form

🧺 Materials

  • Munari Mobile: Black and white shapes + glass sphere (used around 3–6 weeks)
  • Octahedron Mobile: Red, yellow, and blue foil octahedrons (used around 5–8 weeks)
  • Sturdy mobile hanger or ceiling hook
  • Soft, safe space (play mat or movement area)

📋 Step-by-Step Presentation

  1. Set up the mobile securely above your baby’s movement area, about 10–12 inches above her chest, and out of reach.
  2. Wait until your baby is calm but alert.
  3. Gently lay your baby on her back under the mobile.
  4. Avoid additional distractions; let the mobile move gently with the air.
  5. Sit quietly nearby, observing your baby’s focus and eye movement.
  6. Leave her undisturbed as long as she remains engaged.
  7. Remove the mobile once she becomes fussy or loses interest.

🔄 Extensions / Variations

  • Alternate between the Munari and Octahedron mobiles weekly.
  • Add the Gobbi Mobile around 7–10 weeks.
  • Pair with black-and-white floor cards in nearby areas.
  • Use a fan or open window for natural, gentle motion (avoid spinning motors).

📝 Notes for Parents & Teachers

  • Present only one mobile at a time.
  • Movement should be subtle—not too fast or overstimulating.
  • These mobiles are for observation only, not for grabbing or handling.
  • Watch for signs of overstimulation: looking away, fussing, or squirming.
  • Allow for repetition—babies benefit from seeing the same mobile daily for a few weeks.
