📸 Visuals
(Insert a flipbook or short reel showing high-contrast cards displayed by a changing table, on a floor mat during tummy time, and being observed by a baby. Include close-ups of black-and-white geometric patterns.)
🎯 Objectives
- Support the development of visual focus and tracking
- Stimulate early brain development through contrast
- Encourage independent observation
- Promote longer periods of calm alertness
🧺 Materials
- Set of high-contrast black-and-white cards (simple geometric patterns or shapes)
- Display stand, small easel, or wall tape
- Tummy time mat or soft floor space
- Optional: rotating set of cards (2–3 different sets)
📋 Step-by-Step Presentation
- Choose 3–5 cards with bold, simple black-and-white patterns.
- Place them where your baby can comfortably see them — near the changing area, playmat, or in front during tummy time.
- If lying on her back, set the cards vertically 8–12 inches from her face.
- Observe quietly as she looks at the images—allow her to concentrate without interruptions.
- Change the cards or rotate them every few days to maintain interest.
- Continue as long as your baby remains calm and alert.
🔄 Extensions / Variations
- Use different sets of cards with shapes, animals, or faces.
- Tape cards to the inside of a baby-safe mirror frame.
- Create a photo mobile using the cards.
- Use soft black-and-white cloth books in the same style.
- Encourage visual tracking by slowly moving one card from side to side.
📝 Notes for Parents & Teachers
- Only present during your baby’s alert and calm state—not when sleepy or fussy.
- Repetition is beneficial—reusing the same cards over time builds familiarity and focus.
- Avoid overstimulation—keep the environment quiet and offer one set at a time.
- You can print your own cards using thick cardstock or find printable versions online.
- Don’t rush or redirect—let your baby observe for as long as they choose.
